What I’ve been up to as of late…

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

Ok, I’ve failed to keep up with updates yet again; however, I am posting one now so…

Anyway, this is what I’ve been up to. It’s the first 12 pages of 16 Hours to live. I’ve tweaked the rough sketch (turned it to this nifty non photo blue color and photoshop’d it a bit), lettered and spell checked it, and then I printed it out on this smooth Bristol Board. It’s all ready for the final inks. That’s right 12 pages ready to go. That means I’ve got roughly ~40 pages left. I plan to have another 20 pages in this state by the end of the weekend. Then all I’ve got to do is ink them (inking with a brush is perhaps my favorite part of the entire process…) and drop them into inDesign. Woot!

In other news – I’m really starting to despise wordpress. Every time that I post it tells me that it’s not going to let me post. (Although, I think that this might be more a symptom of Blue host than wordpress.) Then after I click OK to the error message it deletes half of what I’ve written. Perhaps I’ll just renew my deviant art account -

16 Hours to Live – Part 2

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

Thought that I should post a bit of update on the status of 16 Hours to Live Part 2. As of right now, the scripts are written, the thumbnails are drawn and printed. I’m currently ‘penciling’  (although I’m using a pen, which is the reason for the quotes…) and lettering it’s 50 pages… This is going to take a little while. So, I plan to post updates on the 2nd books status so that anyone who has read the first one can see how long it’s going to be for part 2.

Foam Core Comic Displays

Friday, January 15th, 2010

If you’ve ever seen a ’saddle stitched’ book you’ve probably noticed that if they end up sitting ’spine out’ on a shelf they all but vanish. This can cause problems. If all you have is the thin edge sticking out of a packed bookshelf chances are that people will have difficulty finding it.  I created  this little display out of foam core to help keep 16 Hours to Live from getting lost. I designed it from scratch this morning. It’s pretty sturdy, and I made it so that I can change the graphic on top if I wish.

I still have to design a graphic for the top, but they work well so far. If anyone is interested – just leave a comment and I can turn the template that I created into a PDF so you can build them for your own projects.
